Event description
Get the inside track on Donizetti's 'Maria Stuarda' with Irish National Opera.

About this event

Did you know...that although Donizetti's opera, Maria Stuarda first premiered in 1835 to a disapproving audience and disgruntled Milanese censors, it would be 130 years before it found its way into the popular operatic repertoire. It is an exciting opera with a compelling story and wonderful music and we are delighted to see it back in opera houses around the world.

Join us for Maria Stuarda ... In Focus, an introduction to Donizetti's opera presented in partnership with the Italian Institute of Culture. This talk will include a roundtable discussion between INO’s artistic director Fergus Sheil and members of the Maria Stuarda creative team along with an introduction from musicologist and journalist Michael Lee.

The event is designed to give a deeper understanding of the opera and will enhance the experience of the live performances taking place 5 - 22 June 2022 in Dublin, Cork, Wexford and Limerick. It is equally of interest to those who would simply like to learn more about Donizetti and Italian opera in general. It is suitable for opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The event will last for approximately 1 hour and will be available to access online.

Access details will be provided on the day of the event via email.
