Masterclass: Strength Diagnostics in Practice

Overview

A practical, principles based workshop on strength quality classification, diagnostics and practical implementation

The Strength Diagnostics Masterclass

Dr. Eamonn Flanagan is a recognised global expert in strength diagnostics, testing and assessment. He has contributed regularly to Sportsmith and his content remains some of our most read and watched. There is a clear need for this content to help guide practitioners with scientific and practical frameworks.

  • Rob Pacey, Founder Sportsmith

Join us for a workshop designed specifically for practitioners to dive into strength classification and diagnostics. This event will teach you the underpinning principles of force plate technology, hands-on practical testing techniques and reliable testing systems for your clients & athletes.

Force plates, wearable tech, camera based technologies and other monitoring tools are now widely used across rehab and performance environments. These tools provide increasingly complex information.

This course can help simplify your approaches and increase your understanding of these technologies and the metrics they generate.

Regardless of the tool being used, the quality of decision making depends on understanding the underlying principles:

  • What is being measured
  • How strength qualities are classified and expressed
  • How data should be interpreted in context

This workshop is designed to support practitioners who want to take a more structured, principled, and technology-independent approach to strength testing and assessment.

"Eamonn has provided great content in the field of strength diagnostics for athletes. His previous webinars on these topics are "must watch" for any professional before they even begin testing. I think this will be a "must attend" workshop."

  • Keenan Robinson, Sports Medicine and Science, Cleveland Browns

Who This Workshop Is Designed For

This workshop will be ideal for:

  • Physiotherapists working in sport, private practice, or high-performance environments
  • Practitioners using force plates (including systems such as VALD or Hawkins Dynamics) as part of rehabilitation or performance monitoring
  • Clinicians involved in return-to-performance decision-making
  • Practitioners using wearable technology or video based technologies for athlete or client assessment.
  • Practitioners who value understanding what's behind the metrics, not just what the output displays

It is equally applicable for those who:

  • Do not have access to force plates and are looking for low cost, practical tools to assess strength qualities and guide return to play strategies
  • Use wearable or accelerometer-based technologies (eg. Output Sports)
  • Use LiDAR or optical tracking systems (eg. Optojump, KinetikIQ)
  • Rely on jump testing via contact mats

The content is intentionally technology-agnostic and focused on principles that transfer across systems.

What You Can Expect to Gain

""The language and approach Eamonn used clearly showcased 'what', 'why', and 'how' in a manner the novice professional could really get to grips with, or the experienced could deep dive into".

  • Previous course attendee (2026)

By the end of the workshop, participants should expect to:

  • Interpret strength diagnostics and jump-based testing data with greater clarity and context
  • Appreciate the strengths and limitations of various assessment approaches
  • Apply testing outcomes more deliberately within their own environment
  • Communicate assessment findings more clearly with coaches, athletes, and colleagues

The aim is to help practitioners understand the principles behind the technology so they can deliver to their clients with clarity and understanding.

"The first steps in return to play is understanding diagnostics, identifying the key markers specific to that injury, knowing how to measure them and use them to guide your decision-making... Eamonn’s course will teach you that"

  • Dr. Colm Fuller, Brentford Football Club

""Eamonn delivered an excellent workshop. What stood out most was how well the day blended theory with hands-on practice. The corrective strategies shown throughout each test gave real insight into how to apply findings in a meaningful way. A very worthwhile workshop with plenty of practical takeaways that can be applied immediately."
