Event description

Description

The MSI symposium provides a forum for academic and technical dialogue in matters relating to microscopy on the entire island of Ireland. Abstract submissions for either poster or oral communications in any area of research involving microscopy are invited.

The Annual Symposium is conducted in a relaxed, semi-formal environment, and proves the ideal platform for students, especially those who have yet to experience a scientific meeting for the first time.

In addition to sessions open to all topics in microscopy, the 2019 symposium will also include dedicated sessions on the topic of open source approaches in microscopy, and physical probe microscopy. Invited speakers include:

  • Ricardo Henriques - University College London
  • Magnus Nord - University of Antwerp
  • Brian Rodriguez - University College Dublin
  • Lynette Keeney - Tyndall National Institute

This year, we will be holding a hands on DIY microscopy workshop in the afternoon before the main symposium. This is a chance to work in a team to hack together a simple microscope from basic parts and components. Do you want to make a microscope from a 3D printer, or a raspberry pi? No special skills or knowledge required!

The workshop is free for symposium attendees, but places are limited, so be sure reserve your spot when registering for the meeting!

Not yet a member? Join here to avail of reduced cost registration. Membership costs €12 for a student or €20 for an ordinary member.
