Description
Social acceptance and the energy transition
Headlines about renewable energy sources are commonplace. Heralded as a vital feature of a shift away from fossil fuel generation, they are part of the transition to a low carbon economy, and we are experiencing substantial growth in the expansion of renewable energy generating capacity, as well as investment in the means to bring the energy to consumers. However, we are witnessing increasing levels of local opposition to individual projects, which highlights a major social challenge for the energy transition: to understand the complexity of the opposition to the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure.
MISTRAL will host a free online symposium that will present and discuss recent research that examines social and political dimensions of the energy transition. Held over two half days, a range of world-leading experts in the field of social acceptance of energy technologies will describe research that explores:
• Community engagement with energy projects
• Social innovation and the energy transition
• Intersection of social, policy, and market
• Governance, democracy and innovation in energy policy
Presentations are organised into thematic clusters; 20 minute presentations will be followed by questions and a discussion. The symposium will be hosted on the GoToMeeting platform.
Attendance is free, but prior registration is required - the meeting link will be sent to your email after the closing date
Registration closes at 8pm (BST) on Monday 11th May
MISTRAL (Multi-sectoral approaches to Innovative Skills Training for Renewable energy and sociAL acceptance) is an Innovative Training Network funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie action (Grant Agreement 813837). MISTRAL is a network of academic and other stakeholders, and will train and nurture a cohort of researchers working on the complex range of the issues involved in opposition to renewable energy infrastructure deployment, and to develop a wide range of innovative solutions in research, government, and business contexts.
