The Southern Regional Assembly as a partner in the MATCH-UP project along with our Stakeholders Cork Transport Mobility Forum and Cork City Council wish to invite you to join us at Cork City Library at 13.30 on 20th September 2019 to discuss low carbon modal interchange and the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy 2040.
Our guest speakers include:
- Sebastiaan Van Der Hijden, Strategic Mobility Advisor, Municipality of Utrecht, The Netherlands to present “Planning for People (& Bikes), Not for Cars”.
- Dr Brian Caulfield, Associate Professor, Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, Trinity College Dublin to present on “Bike Sharing Connecting Mobility and Activity Hubs in Cork"
- Owen Shinkwin, Senior Planner, National Transport Authority and Kevin Burke, Principal Transport Planner, Jacobs to present the “Draft Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy 2040”
- Bernie Connolly, Coordinator Cork Environmental Forum, to present “Low Carbon Multi Modal Travel in Cork City”.
MATCH-UP focuses on the optimisation of travel hubs – that is the places where people change between low carbon transport modes – Walking/Cycling, Public Transport, Rail Transport and Green Vehicles. This project aims to improve these interchanges at local level to improve public transport by learning from our Interregional partners
MATCH-UP, a four and a half-year, 5-partners project was approved for a grant of €0.9m by the Interreg Europe Programme and commenced in July 2018 at a meeting in Bologna. The partnership consists of 4 European regions - Southern & Eastern Ireland, County of Northeim, Germany, Municipality of Funchal, Portugal and Timisoara Municipality, Romania who are working together to share experience, solutions, and good practice to develop and deliver better public policy to reduce carbon emissions and support low carbon urban mobility in designated urban centres. MATCH-UP is part-funded by the Interreg Europe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund and led by the University of Bologna in Italy.
