Overview

Two extraordinary musicians who continuously push the boundaries of their chosen instruments. We're honored to have Muller & Munnelly visit.

Ies Muller is considered one of the best folk flutists from Dutch soil. At an early age he came into contact with Irish and Breton traditional music and the wooden flute. Captivated by the sound of this instrument, he began to play and learn more and more music. During travels through Ireland, Scotland and Brittany, but also Spain, he expanded his repertoire, absorbing the details and idiosyncrasies that give the music of these regions its character. While Irish and Breton continued to form the heart of his style and repertoire, many influences were added over time. He has worked on various projects with musicians from all kinds of disciplines, including classical music, jazz and world music. His current style was also created through these influences.

David Munnelly is an accordionist from Belmullet, County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. His unique musical voice is built on deep foundations, starting with influences from his immediate family, particularly from his grandmother who played melodeon. A virtuoso panache was soon added, with echoes of the Irish-American music from the 1920s and 1930s full of swing. These roots in the Irish tradition are contrasted with a refined and contemporary accompaniment with basses and chords, creating a unique, rich and unforgettable sound.
David is considered one of the most influential Irish accordionists of his generation: he has played with legendary Irish bands De Dannan and The Chieftains, and was the frontman of The David Munnelly Band for 15 years. In recent years, his skills as a composer and arranger have increasingly come to the fore, and David is now working on a wide range of musical projects, ranging from the multi award-winning pan-European accordion quintet Samurai, through his experimental solo compositions, to the energetic traditional Irish band Morga.
