Details of the Speakers

Mary Gilmartin is Professor of Geography at Maynooth University, where she has worked for almost 12 years. She holds an undergraduate degree from UCD, and Masters and PhD degrees from the University of Kentucky. Her research focuses on migration and mobility, and her publications include two recent books: Ireland and migration in the twenty-first century (Manchester University Press, 2015) and Borders, mobility and belonging in the era of Brexit and Trump (Policy Press, 2018, co-authored with Tricia Wood and Cian O'Callaghan). She has just completed two research projects on immigrant integration in Ireland, funded by the Irish Research Council and by IHREC.
Paul Rouse is Associate Professor of History at University College Dublin. His main research interest lies in the history of sport. He has written extensively on the history of Irish sport, but also on the global history of sport. His research also extends to popular culture, the history of the media, and the history of agriculture. He is the founding editor of historyhub.ie, UCD's public history site (http://historyhub.ie). Most recently, he appeared on the three-part RTÉ history of hurling, 'The Game', and in a docudrama on Hugh Lane, ‘Citizen Lane’. He writes a weekly column for the Irish Examiner newspaper.
