Multi-instrumental two day workshop with Rebecca McCarthy Kent.
Rebecca is a multi-instrumentalist, equally accomplished in both classical and traditional music. She has won multiple Fleadh Ceoil All-Ireland titles in both fiddle and piano and was the Bonn Óir Seán Ó Riada champion for 2019. Rebecca has toured nationally and internationally with different musical groups in Germany, Canada, USA, Dubai, Romania, China and many more. Rebecca is a member of the band 3 on the Bund who have just released their debut album “Frenzy” this past March. Rebecca is also a member of the renowned Kerry – based dance show, ‘Celtic Steps.’ As well as performing regularly, Rebecca is co-founder, musical director and composer for the Waterford- based fusion orchestra – Tradchestra. Rebecca is a qualified primary school teacher and has achieved first place in the TTCT teaching diploma in Irish music. Rebecca also achieved a First Class Honours for her master’s degree in Irish Music Performance at the University of Limerick.
Workshops will focus on the arrangement of traditional Irish music with a mixture of traditional tunes and new compositions. A variety of different musical genres will be used to create the arrangements. Open to all ages from intermediate to advanced levels.
Pre-registration is required by 24th May. Music will be sent in advance to be rehearsed as the workshops focus on arrangement and performance only.
Participants will get the opportunity to perform to a live audience during the Music Ensemble Showcase which is a culmination of the Ensemble Workshop and will be held on Sun 9th June 2024 @7pm. Participants’ family and friends can purchase tickets to this exciting event: €10 +bf.
