Musical Improv Workshop

The Seamus Heaney CentreBelfast, Northern Ireland
Saturday, Jan 17 from 10 am to 5 pm GMT
Overview

A beginner-friendly introduction to improvised musicals.

Musical Improv Workshop

Have you ever watched an improvised musical and wondered how performers can make up songs, scenes, and stories on the spot ?

This beginner-friendly workshop offers a practical introduction to musical improvisation in a supportive and playful environment. Working with a live piano accompanist, participants will learn how spoken scenes naturally grow into songs, how music can heighten emotion and character, and how to collaborate as an ensemble.

No singing or musical experience required. The focus is on listening, storytelling, and ensemble support, with exercises that build confidence and encourage playful risk-taking. Some basic improv experience is recommeneded.

Places are limited to ensure everyone gets plenty of time to play and participate.

About the facilitators:

Eddie Goodwin - Eddie is an improvisor and musician. Eddie frequently performs improv in Belfast. Over the past two years he has combined these skills to accompany several musical improv groups in Belfast and international teams at the Belfast International Improv Fest. Eddie also coaches musical improv with teams which he accompanies.

Declan King - Declan is an improvisor, theatre maker and facilitator. Declan has worked with several of Northern Ireland's leading theatre companies as well as makes his own work. Declan has been an improvisor for several years. He has trained in musical improv with Showstopper! The Improvised Musical (London) and this training is at the heart of his coaching style with musical improv teams.
