Do you have outstanding programming skills? Do you want the possibility to show your work to world-leading companies and research institutions? Do you want to access one of the biggest materials-science databases in the world? If you replied “yes, of course” to all these questions, then, look no further!
We – the <A HREF="http://nomad-coe.eu/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Novel Materials Discovery (NOMAD) Laboratory</A> – are holding a 48-hours Hackathon in Berlin on January 18-20th, 2017 in which we are going to build big-data analytics and web-based tools for materials science and engineering.
What is the Novel Materials Discovery (NOMAD) Laboratory? The NOMAD Laboratory is a European Centre of Excellence (CoE), funded by the European Union under the Horizon2020 program. Eight complementary research groups of highest scientific standing in computational materials science along with four high-performance computing centers form the synergetic core of this CoE: - Fritz-Haber-Institute of the Max Planck Society - University of Cambridge - Humboldt University, Berlin - King’s College London - Technical University of Denmark - Aalto University - University of Warwick - University of Barcelona - Max Planck Institute for the Structure of Dynamics of Matter - Max Planck Computing and Data Facility - Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Leibniz Supercomputing Centre - CSC-IT Center for Science, Espoo
Why should you come? This Hackathon is an excellent opportunity to work with bright scientists from all over Europe to build new big-data analytics and web-based tools for the NOMAD project. It does not happen very often that you get the possibility to shape the future of materials science, and show your work to companies like - Nokia Technologies - BASF SE - BP plc - Dassault Systèmes BIOVIA - SpringerMaterials - Haldor Topsøe - ONYX - QuantumWise - Fraunhofer - Max Planck Innovation If you are selected, we will pay for your accommodation, and contribute towards your travel expenses. Food and drinks will also served.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, etc.) - Excellent knowledge of Python and Javascript/HTML - Working knowledge of big-data analytics/machine-learning techniques - You code fast, and well - Fluent English
How to apply Please send an email with your CV, and (optionally) a sample of code you have written to: ziletti@fhi-berlin.mpg.de with subject "NOMAD Hackathon Application".
