Antoni O'Breskey

Born in Italy, with Argentinian roots, Antoni O'Breskey is a composer, pianist, trumpet player, writer and music educator. He introduced improvised-style piano into Irish and Flamenco music during the early 80's, blending it with blues and creating a positively new and original jazz piano style. In 1979 he recorded 'Irish meet the Blues' , the first album ever recorded on piano where traditional Irish music meets Blues and Jazz.

In 1989 Antóni O'Breskey recorded 'Al Kamar', the first fusion between Irish traditional music, Jazz, flamenco, and music from the Maghreb. Among the special guests of this album are Antonio Carmona, leader of the band Ketama and Jamal Ouassini, director of the Tangeri Orchestra from Morocco. “Al Kamar” was presented in Paris at Theatre La Cigale, Le Cirque d’Hiver and l’Institut du Monde Arabe with special guests Manu Di Bangu and Jacques Higelin, and then toured around the world.

For many years and predating the times Antonio has been gathering together musicians from all over the world and from different traditions and cultures creating an extraordinary variety of music and recording the thirty-five CDs which form the Nomadic Piano Collection.

Among the many collaborators who appear in this collection are: Ronnie Drew (The Dubliners), Máirtín O’Connor (De Dannan), Antonio Carmona (Ketama), José Seves (Inti-Illimani), Benito Lertxundi, Cathy Jordan (Dervish).
