Tennis Ireland are excited to welcome world renowned physical preparation coach Patrick Meur for a half day practical based workshop titled "Speed Development Fundamentals for Sport Workshop" on Saturday 21st April at the National Tennis Centre situated next to Dublin City University. This workshop is suitable for all practitioners who work in sports where speed and change of direction are critical to performance.

Patrick Meur was physical preparation coach at the ATF from 1996-2014 & has been described by the ATF (French speaking Belgium tennis Federation) as a historical figure in their federation. He has played a role in developing their top tennis players from a very young age to pros which is rare for any coach to achieve & he has consistently produced top pros/junior tennis players. He has a reputation for producing athletes that are fast, powerful & with high endurance. He is widely considered world class in the development of speed in athletes. Most notable players he has produced are:

Justine Henin:

She is widely considered one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. She spent a total of 117 weeks as the world No. 1 and was the year-end No. 1 in 2003, 2006 and 2007.

Henin won seven Grand Slam singles titles; winning the French Open in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007, the US Open in 2003 and 2007 and the Australian Open in 2004. At Wimbledon, she was the runner-up in 2001 and 2006. She also won a gold medal in the women's singles at the 2004 Olympic Games and won the year-ending WTA Tour Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Oliver Rochus:

He has won two singles titles in his career and in 2004 won the French Open doubles title partnering fellow Belgian Xavier Malisse. Rochus' career-high singles ranking is World No. 24.

As a junior, reaching as high as No. 11 in the world in 1997 (and No. 16 in doubles the following year).

Chritophe Rochus:

He reached the semi-finals of the Hamburg Masters in 2005 and was runner-up in two ATP tournaments, Valencia and Rotterdam. Rochus' career-high singles ranking was world No. 38, achieved in May 2006.

Steve Darcis:

He has won two ATP titles and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No.38 on 22 May 2017.

As a junior, Darcis reaching as high as No. 8 in the junior world singles rankings in May 2002 (and No. 15 in doubles).

David Goffin:

Career high and current ranking is world No. 7 ATP. He is currently the highest ranked Belgian male and the first to reach the ATP top 10.[3] Goffin has won four ATP titles, and has reached seven other ATP finals, including the 2017 ATP World Tour Finals.

As a junior, reaching as high as No. 10 in the junior combined world rankings in July 2008

Patrick Meur, Biography outline:

-Worked as a as a physical teacher until 1996.

-During that period, was also working as physical coach for the local tennis federation. In which he trained Justine Henin, Olivier Rochus and Chritophe Rochus when they were very young.

-In 1996, he began working full time for the ATF (French Speaking Belgium Tennis Federation), in Mons ( the training centre). The goal was to take care especially of Oliver Rochus, Justine Henin and the other young players.

-During that time, he also worked with Steve Darcis and David Goffin.

-He stopped his career with the AFT at the end of 2014 in order to work essentially with David Goffin full time till end of 2016, in which Patrick Meur retired from coaching.

10am - 11am - Acceleration/linear speed/first step

11am - 12pm - Recovery steps/reactive foot work/freq speed

12pm - 1pm - Change of direction speed/combining previous components

1pm - 1.30pm - Q&A

Additional benefits- session filmed & sent out, translator as Patrick English struggles when trying to explain more complex answers & hot drinks with some snacks, 1-2 academy tennis players there to demo & use for drills.
