About this event

On January 1st 2024 the Department of Social Protection introduced a new method of calculating a long-term carer's entitlement to the State Pension (Contributory). The new ‘Long-Term Carer Contributions’ scheme makes it easier for long-term family carers to qualify for the State Pension (Contributory) when they reach pension age. A long-term carer is someone who has cared for more than 20 years.

Join us for an information session with FCI's Clare Duffy along with officers from the Department of Social Protection to understand who qualifies, important points to know about the new scheme and how to register your caring periods.

Clare Duffy is Family Carer’s Ireland’s Policy and Public Affairs Manager. Clare has been working in this role for over 15 years and so brings a vast range of knowledge and expertise of all the current and past policy concerns facing family carers. Clare is a passionate advocate for family carers and demonstrates this in an array of settings across the country from carers homes to Dáil Éireann.

All attendees to our events/courses/workshops may be contacted by a member of Family Carers Ireland team as we require information, to be held in confidence, for statistical purposed thus ensuring funding for future training, events and activities.

Family Carers Ireland is the national charity supporting the 500,000 family carers across the country who care for loved ones such as children or adults with additional needs, physical or intellectual disabilities, frail older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic illnesses, mental health challenges or addiction.

Our vision is an Ireland in which family carers are properly recognised, supported and empowered. Our mission is to highlight the contribution of family carers to Irish society and to improve the lives of family carers throughout the country. We believe that no one should have to care alone
