Performance Workshop with Synaptic Space

Synaptic Space present a two part bespoke performance workshop inspired by their research and the land surrounding Interface.

In 2026 Synaptic Space initiated Interspace, a performance project in response to the synergy between them as performance artists and the unique fabric of the land at Interface.

This workshop will gently introduce performance art as an artistic medium of expression and support the participants to explore sites at Interface with a view to performing to a public audience.

Synaptic Space are Olivia Hassett and Rachel MacManus, experienced performance artists, founders and facilitators of collaborative performance groups p(art)y Here and Now and Xchange.

This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in exploring performance art as a method of expression, a means of meeting other creatives, and working collaboratively with others.

Workshop : Friday, Sept 4th, 10am-5pm

10am : Meet and greet with Olivia and Rachel and your fellow workshop participants.

10.30am - 12.30pm, Workshop 1: Will consist of a series of tasks encouraging the participants to explore key facets of performance art. Simple body-based actions will lead to tasks exploring time and the relationship between performer, and space. Where the tasks begin by exploring the performer as an individual, they will build during this workshop to explore the dynamic of working in pairs and small groups. This gentle introduction to working in groups is designed to lead to the second workshop and ultimately support the group while they develop live work to perform to an audience.

12.30pm - 1.30pm: Lunch (participants to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinking water, hot drinks will be provided)

1.30-3pm, Workshop 2: Synaptic Space will build on previous explorations of the relationship between performing individually and as a group in a specific space while also considering the added dimension of performing to an audience. Various outdoor sites at Interface will be explored performatively with a view to choosing a site for the public performance. This workshop will culminate in a documented hour-long public performance, which will be shared on social media subject to agreement by the workshop participants.

4pm-5pm : Public Performance
