About this event

  • 7 hours

John Thornton is a local artist who specialises in atmospheric landscapes and nostalgic still life. Explore the lovely Anne’s Grove Gardens and learn about composition and techniques for Plein Air Painting.
Doneraile Art FesT are delighted to organise Cork’s Plein Air competition. We welcome artists from all over Ireland to paint in the beautiful Doneraile Park. Last year saw the addition of Anne’s Grove Gardens as a venue and the debut of the People’s Choice award for both competitions. This year will include children’s categories in Doneraile Park.

Your ticket pays for both the Plein Air competition (9am-4pm) at Anne’s Grove and John’s workshop—you can choose to participate in either or both.

Facilitator: John Thornton

Venue: Annes Grove Gardens, Castletownroche
When: Saturday 29th June, 9am-12pm

Notes: Bring your own materials, canvases and mediums you wish to use.

RULES & GUIDELINES

  • The artist registration ‘Information Point’ will be situated at the information board in the carpark from 8.30-11am. You will need to register at the information point to get your artist identification tag and swing tag for the exhibition.
  • At the paint out exhibition held at 4pm in front of Doneraile Court (Doneraile Park) or 4pm in front of Anne’s Grove House (Anne’s Grove Gardens)—each artist may submit one work. The artists are to display work on their own easels. Work to be marked with Artist Number and price (if for sale) using swing tags provided.
  • The stewards/volunteers are there to help and are happy to help with local knowledge and directions.
  • All paintings must be painted on location without the use of photographic references.
  • In the event of rain or inclement weather it is your decision and responsibility whether you continue painting. You may make your own ad hoc arrangements to work under shelter. Walls, trees, awnings and doorways can be useful.
  • If working with mediums that may not be suitable for all weather, you are allowed to make your own arrangements to protect your work (e.g. framing for pastels)
  • While participating in the festival you accept that the organisers can take photographs and videos of you for the purposes of promoting Doneraile Art FesT in both print media and online through websites and social media.
