We are delighted celebrate Poetry Day Ireland with this reading and workshop.The Ireland Chair of Poetry, and HOWL New Irish Writing, recently published Rafael’s work, 'The Migrant Dictionary’, which they described as poems that “reach beyond Ireland to explore – both explicitly and implicitly – our understanding of identities in flux”.Rafael will host a poetry workshop, where budding writers can learn from his experience, build confidence and learn techniques for writing. In this workshop, we reflect on and use poetry to write about community. Drawing from diverse periods and styles, the poems will offer different perspectives on how poets craft poems that reflect (un)belonging and also provide prompts to help us start writing our own. He will also read from his “The Migrant Dictionary”, a sequence that plays with and troubles the conventional poetic form. Using the dictionary entry as its 'meter' and Ulysses as its protagonist, it challenges assumptions of fixed meanings in an unstable Ireland and world. Join us during this evening of poetry reading and writing. Spread the word. Accessibility information: The ground floor of Clondalkin Library is fully wheelchair accessible including an accessible bathroom and baby changing facility. The Junior Library and events space on the first floor can only be accessed by stairs and there is no lift available.
