PREDICTIVE TEXTS
Performance and Q&A
It’s the distant future and Deaf astronaut Anna (played by Lianne Quigley, Dublin Theatre of the Deaf) is making repairs on her spacecraft. Her work is both helped and hindered by the emergency interpreting hologram (played by Alvean Jones, ADAPT and Dublin Theatre of the Deaf), whose Artificial Intelligence cannot understand the complexities of ISL. Miscommunications between Anna and the hologram bring humour and tension to the astronaut’s life-or-death work. Predictive Texts reinterprets 19th and 20th century science fiction, presenting a gripping new scenario to examine anxieties and joys around emerging technologies.
Performed in ISL with voiced English interpretation and open captioning in English. The play has a 20-minute expected run time and is followed by an interpreted and captioned Q&A session where the audience can ask and share about their experiences with AI, interpreting services, and more.
