Description

This session has been designed to help you to create or improve your online presence. Presented as a practical hands-on workshop using your own laptop/tablet it will enable you to try out the tools and techniques required for web design and build in the Web 2.0 environment, an opportunity for your questions to be answered and personalised support and advice on your web presence.

The session also incorporates case studies of best practice in web design as used by other Irish artists and designers and will explore practical issues like registering a domain and hosting a site.

Programme Content:

  • How to build and manage a responsive CMS website (Wordpress), that includes a portfolio of work, allows e-Commerce and promotion with integrated social-media
  • Using themes to develop the ‘look and feel’ of your website without the need for a web-designer
  • Driving traffic to your most important content on your site, and getting your site noticed by Search engines (Search Engine Optimisation)
  • Building an effective social media campaign to promote yourself and your work

Trainer Biography:

Niall Flaherty is a Galway-born artist, designer and teacher, currently living and working in Dublin, Ireland. Niall lectures in Digital Media and Information Design at UCD, Part-time Diploma in Art & Design at NCAD. In 2005 he formed the Blackletter Artists Group with Cliona Harmey and Alan Butler www.blackletter.ie. Niall had the first solo show of his work in 2009 at Monstertruck Gallery, Francis Street, Dublin, where he has also curated a number of shows.

In 2010 he started Artist-makers Online to assist Irish artists and creative groups in developing their web-presence. Since then he has produced websites produced for artists and designers and provided short courses and consultancy to Kildare Artists, Artists Studio Network Ireland, Visual Art Centre, Irish Visual Artist Rights Organisation, Clare and Offaly County Council Arts Offices and Dublin City Council Artist Residencies.
