About this event

  • 2 days

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Red Flag Festival, a celebration dedicated to honoring the legacy of Jim Connell. Commencing in Navan, Co Meath, this festival promises a weekend filled with insightful programs and engaging activities for all attendees.

As our organising committee diligently finalizes the event schedule, we wanted to provide you with a sneak peek into what awaits. On Friday, the festival kicks off with the screening of a documentary produced by Liam O'Rourke, shedding light on Jim Connell and the monumental significance of Crossakiel, the primary event location on Sunday. Saturday holds the promise of exciting sessions that aim to captivate and involve everyone present.

This festival transcends local boundaries, marking an international gathering. The Red Flag anthem, a cornerstone of the labour movement, has been adopted and sung by unionists worldwide. Authored by Jim Connell, a native of Rathniska near Kilskyre, to the north of Kells in County Meath, his influence extends far beyond geographical confines.

As we prepare for this celebration of history, culture, and community, we sincerely hope you can join us for this enriching experience. The Red Flag Festival is not just an event; it's a testament to the enduring impact of Jim Connell's contributions.

Look forward to seeing you there!
