Robert Finegan, Saxophone

Robert Finegan, Saxophone

Overview

Music for Galway and Arts in Action present: Robert Finegan, “One of the most exciting Irish saxophone players in a generation”

Described as “One of the most exciting Irish saxophone players in a generation”, Robert Finegan is coming to Galway for Arts in Action on Thursday 9th of April.

Passionate about new music, Robert works closely with composers from around the world in the production of new works. His most recent projects include ‘A Modern View of Ancient Ireland’ for Saxophone and Electronics (some of which we will hear as part of this performance), and ‘Paris Chapters’ for Voice, Saxophone and Piano inspired by Irish writers who lived in Paris. These original projects have culminated in performances across Europe.

An avid soloist and chamber musician, Robert has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, National Concert Hall, Dublin, Ulster Hall, Belfast, Guildhall, Derry, and Milton Court Concert Hall. As a concerto soloist, he has performed with the TU Dublin Philharmonic, Irish Films and Pops Orchestra, DIT Symphony Orchestra, and RCM Wind Ensemble.

The MfG Out & About series is in line with MfG’s sustainability policy and the strategy to bring the wonderful visiting musicians to those who may find it difficult to join regular concerts. Whether you catch Robert at 1.00pm at the University or at 3.30pm on at Westside Resource centre, these events are open to all and accepting of the fact that some may benefit from a more relaxed setting. This also means that we all (including the artists) will be accepting and welcoming, should there be more movement or sound in the room. In this context we embrace the fact that enjoyment comes in all shapes and sizes!
