Roots & Stitches Workshop

Roots & Stitches Workshop

Overview

Roots & Stitches is a project run by artists, Kim-Ling Morris and Riki Matsuda. They will host three workshops at The Guesthouse this Oct.

Roots & Stitches is a collaboration between Riki Matsuda and Kim-Ling Morris, supported by The Centre for Creative Practices (CFCP ) and funded by The Arts Council of Ireland.

As a part of our project, We will host a free one-day workshop over 3 available days at The Guesthouse this October. During these workshops participants will have open discussions about their backgrounds and culture as well as talk about personal identity and the idea of ‘home’.

What to expect from our Workshop:

When is the Workshop?

We will be hosting the same workshop over three days on October 10th, 11th, & 12th. In order to attend, reserve a ticket for your preferred day online (please only select one workshop day).

Will I have to talk to strangers?

Yes, ideally a bunch of strangers. This workshop is an opportunity understand and share with others in our community. If you know others interested in the workshop, it would be more beneficial to attend different days in order to provide a better experience for all who attend.

What is the craft / hands-on activity?

We will all be making a small piece of art out of paper. We ask that you bring small items ( that fit in the palm of your hand and are light ) or materials that help represent yourself and where you feel connected to. These items, along with materials we provide, will be included in a finished small structure

As a part of this workshop, we ask that you allow us to borrow or keep your finished piece so that it may be included in our City Hall exhibition this winter. You are welcome to make more than one structure, but we ask that you donate at least one for inclusion.

Accessibility Note

The building has accessibility limitations. Our workshop will take place on multiple levels and there are stairs between the ground, first, and second floor, with facilities on the first floor. However if it is not possible to attend these workshop, we would like to find other ways to share this project with you. If you would like to participate but find these limitations an issue, please contact us.
