Join the Irish Architecture Foundation for this unique evening conversation on architecture and film. As part of their season of exhibiton and events, This Is Where We Are Now, the IAF is proud to present for the first time in Ireland the immersive film installation A Lot With Little. This film will be discussed by a panel including the curator and producer of the film, Noemí Blager. Also on show in the venue is a new film called The Space Is The Thing, a portrait of four Irish towns made by architect Valerie Mulvin and director Martin Danneels. The event is moderated by Alice Butler of AEMI.About A Lot With LittleAn Irish premiere screening, <a href="https://www.alotwithlittle.com/" title="https://www.alotwithlittle.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">A Lot With Little</a> showcases the work of international architects engaged in sustainable solutions for housing, education, transformation of existing buildings and disaster relief. It features projects with a social dimension that have had a positive impact on the communities they serve. The contributing architects provide multiple interpretations of a common mindset, overcoming a lack of resources with creative ingenuity.An immersive film installation, curated and produced by Noemí Blager and made by Tapio Snellman, showcases selected projects in their existing settings, alongside interviews with the architects themselves.The featured architects embrace lateral thinking and participatory methods, leading to the creation of sustainable, affordable architecture that contributes to societal betterment. Their shared values prioritise context over concept, fostering flexible, people-centered architecture that exist in harmony with their surroundings. Here, sustainability isn’t a mere goal or regulatory response—it’s a natural consequence of their design philosophy.

About Noemí Blager<a href="https://noemiblager.com/" title="https://noemiblager.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Noemí Blager</a> is a London-based architect and curator. After graduating from the University of Buenos Aires in 1985, she settled in Barcelona where she worked on various public and private projects.In 1994 she moved to London, initially working as a consultant for the building and design industries, returning to architecture practice in 2006. During a project in Brazil, Noemí discovered the legacy of Italo-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi (1914–1992). Inspired by the social dimension of Lina’s work, Noemí mounted the exhibition Lina Bo Bardi: Together which opened at the British Council in London in 2012 and went on to tour internationally for the next four years. In 2020 she published the book Lina Bo Bardi: Together.Former acting director of The Architecture Foundation, Noemí was on the Design Museum’s curatorial board and co-director of the 2014 London Festival of Architecture.A speaker at numerous international conferences including: Design Museum, ICA and RIBA in London, AIA NY, ArkDes Stockholm and IKA Vienna, she is also a regular guest lecturer and critic at Harvard GSD, IIT Chicago, AA, RCA and CASS in London amongst others. About Valerie MulvinValerie Mulvin is a co-founder (with Niall McCullough) of McCullough Mulvin Architects. This is a Dublin-based practice making contemporary architecture in Ireland and abroad, influenced by European attitudes to the history and culture of urban places and how we might live in them.Her research on Irish towns began with an M.Litt. in Trinity College Dublin in the early 1990’s.Previous books include ‘A Lost Tradition - The Nature of Architecture in Ireland’ (1987). Her latest book is ‘Approximate Formality, Morphology of Irish Towns’ (2021). She also edited Niall McCullough’s last book ‘Dublin – Creation, Occupation, Destruction’ (2023). Her work is extended by publications, teaching and research: Valerie has lectured in Ireland, India, Spain, Germany, Norway, the UK, Czech Republic, and Portugal, and has taught at many Schools of Architecture in Ireland, Europe and Asia.The practice has produced numerous internationally recognized buildings, including Trinity Long Room Hub and Printing House Square in Trinity College Dublin; St Mary’s Medieval Mile Museum and Butler Gallery in Kilkenny; Dublin Dental School rooftop library; passive housing in Dublin; and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in India - recently awarded a RIBA International Award. The work of the practice was documented for an international audience by the publication of a monograph by TC Cuadernos McCullough Mulvin Arquitectura 2004-2015. In 2023 the practice was a selected participant in the Housing Unlocked exhibition (IAF and the Housing Agency). Valerie is a member of Aosdána.About Alice ButlerAlice Butler is co-founder and co-director of <a href="https://aemi.ie/" title="https://aemi.ie/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">aemi</a>, an Arts Council-funded organisation dedicated to the development of artist and experimental film culture in Ireland. Previously, Alice worked at the Irish Film Institute where she curated film seasons and had responsibility for artist moving image programming. Alice leads the Experimental Film Module with Dr Conor O'Kelly in the Film Department at Trinity College Dublin and she is a Film Lecturer for Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. Alice has written on film for Sight and Sound, Vdrome, Paper Visual Art, CIRCA and Enclave Review as well as exhibition texts for artists Atoosa Pour Hosseini (The Lab) and Colin Martin (DIT). She wrote the career survey chapter for a recently published book on filmmaker Pat Murphy and the catalogue text about filmmaker Sylvia Schedelbauer for Oberhausen International Film Festival 2022 when she was also a member of the festival's jury for the international competition. She has just completed a text for a book about Saskia Holmkvist's Margaret (Back Translation) due for publication in 2025.

The films A Lot With Little and The Space Is The Thing will be available for private view from 17.00-18.00 before the talk. The films are also available during the day between 11am and 16.00 on Wednesday 7th November.
