settle: A talk with Eoghan Daltun

settle: A talk with Eoghan Daltun

Overview

Eoghan Daltun, author of An Irish Atlantic Rainforest will speak about rewilding a West Cork farm, nature loss in Ireland and its solutions

Event Description

Eoghan Daltun, author, farmer, and rewilder, will speak about rewilding his West Cork farm on Beara Peninsula. The talk will also cover nature loss in Ireland and its solutions - touching on the Nature Restoration Plan. The event will conclude with a Q&A, creating space for conversations and questions.

In 2009, Eoghan Daltun moved with his family to Eyeries on the Beara Peninsula, West Cork, having bought a long-abandoned farm of 73 acres. There he started putting into practice a passion the conservation and restoration of natural habitat. Much of the land has reverted over many decades of disuse to its original cover of sessile oak-dominated native wildwood. Beneath the canopy of trees, the forms of the landscape are sculpture in their own right, with towering craggy escarpments, scattered boulders and deep gorges with rushing torrents, all formed from age-weathered sandstone. Combined they create an ecological and aesthetic wonderland, in which gnarled old oaks, carpeted in moss and ferns, grow from the rock fissures.
