The Trio's thoughtful and committed approach have brought the ensemble critical acclaim and invitations to renowned venues such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Palais des Beaux Arts, Musée du Louvre, l’Auditori Barcelona, Wigmore Hall and Lincoln Center New York to name but a few.

Their West Wicklow concert begins with a brooding and powerful trio by French concert pianist and composer Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944), who wrote over 200 works for piano and toured the world to considerable acclaim performing them. Freakshow by contemporary Cork composer Sam Perkin was inspired by the Rat Circus at Fron-goch Camp in Wales, while Tchaikovsky wrote his haunting Piano Trio in A minor in the wake of the death of his close friend Nikolay Rubinstein. It is dedicated “À la mémoire d’un grand artiste”.

PROGRAMME:

Cécile Chaminade Piano Trio No. 2 in A minor, Op. 34
Sam Perkin Freakshow

Tchaikovsky Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50

Described by BBC Music Magazine as "One of the best chamber music festivals in Europe", the West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival brings exciting artists from Ireland and abroad to West Wicklow, for the enjoyment of all. Russborough, one of Ireland's most historic and iconic Palladian houses, and St Mary's Church Blessington, are fitting venues, with their intimate surroundings, fascinating history and long association with music.

In 2024 the flagship summer festival takes place from 15-19 May, and the festival 'Winter Weekend' mini festival runs from 15-17 November.
