We are delighted to announce a special 'Speed and Agility Workshop' in the SportsLab on the 21st of November. Alongside Setanta College lecturer and strength and conditioning coach, William Hughes, we will be joined by All Ireland Winning Tipperary Hurling S&C Coach, Cairbre Ó'Caireallan.

Speed Workshop Setanta College

Specialist coaches Will Hughes and Cairbre Ó'Caireallan will deliver a speed and agility workshop for coaches, players and athletes looking to learn more about acceleration and sport-specific agility patterns.

What To Expect

This 2.5hour workshop will look at:

  • Introduction to speed and agility in terms of developing more explosive and resilient players.

  • Looking at the biomechanics of sprinting and running.

  • Fully coached activation and warm-up routine to prepare the body.

  • Practical methods of developing speed and agility on the pitch or in the gym with a focus on:

    • Acceleration drills and techniques

    • Agility, reaction and change of direction drills,

    • Tertiary methods of speed development – Plyometrics & Resisted Sprinting

Cairbre and Will


Your coaches:

Cairbre Ó'Cairealláin

Cairbre hails from Belfast and hurled for Antrim as a minor. He studied sports science at UL and has a Masters in Sports Performance. He worked with the Limerick minors during Anthony Daly's tenure as head of the Limerick hurling academy, where he would work with the core group of players who won the All-Ireland in 2018.
Ó Cairealláin took a role with the Arsenal FC Academy in 2015 before graduating to Head Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Arsenal Ladies Team in 2016. Ó Cairealláin returned to Ireland after the 2017-18 season taking a role on the backroom team of Liam Sheedy - an appointment that was recognised on the steps of the Hogan Stand when Seamus Callanan lifted the Liam McCarthy this year.

Will Hughes

Will Hughes hails from Tipperary and is an S&C coach and tutor with Setanta College. Will has created the Speed Development module of our BSc in Strength and Conditioning. This is a world-leading programme informed by some of the best coaches from around the world, including Denver Bronco's Loren Landow and GameSpeed's Professor Ian Jeffreys.

Will also heads up the strength and conditioning programmes of Shannon RFC and Ard Scoil Rís Senior Cup Rugby Team, while bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience from his own athletics career.
