Overview

Having never officially gone anywhere, Stanley Super 800 miraculously returned in 2024 and bring their electronic indie folk pop to Savoy!

Stanley Super 800 was formed by Eoin 'Stan' O'Sullivan not too long after his much loved band The Shanks parted ways. Stan started exploring his love for electronic music and honing his skills in the studio not long after The Shanks called it a day. The result was Stanley Super 800 which he formed with Ceilí All Star band mates Flor Rahilly and Michael 'Tosh' O'Sullivan. They released their first EP, called Moonlight in 2003 and after gigging for over a year with a drum machine, the band recruited Dave Hackett on drums just before the band's first album was released.

The first two records were very much electronically driven but with the addition of a live drummer the band's sound started to sway more towards indie rock with a healthy influence of Sliabh Luachra traditional music. The band started touring relentlessly playing anywhere they could get a gig for the next 5 years. During this time the four-piece released another two records including ‘Louder & Clearer’ which was nominated for a Choice Music Prize, for Irish Album of the year in 2007.

The band never actually split up, never spoke about it being over and in 2023, having been asked by Ray from DeBarras to perform at the Clonakilty International Guitar Festival's 20th anniversary in 2024, it felt like the right time to revisit all the work they had put together almost 20 years previously.
