Award winning Irish storyteller Maria Gillen joins us for two workshops.

Story Circle: Thursday 13th June: 10am-11am

These session is not just about listening and telling stories; it also involves discussion, feedback, and collective story building. It’s a space where stories grow, evolve, and take on a life of their own.

Stories started way before human beings learned to keep records and sitting in story circles dates from that time. A story circle is a kaleidoscope of human experience – it is based on intuition and connection. In Story Circles Maria explores the red thread of story, that inexplicable connection we have where each one adds to a collective truth and becomes enriched in the process. This is not a space of performance, debate or therapy – yet it can be a healing space. It is a communal creative ancient experience where the possilitlies are endless.

Groups have fed back that they felt a renewed sense of belonging and community, a renewed energy for a life, a paradigm shift with a positive effect on their problem solving skills.

Spaces are limited as this is a very interactive workshop.

Storytelling: Thursday 13th June: 4pm-5pm

Join Maria for a celebration story for family carers.

Maria has told stories in the famous Square in Marrakech, Jemaa el-Fnaa. She has given workshops in the Schools, Universities and Museums of Marrkech and in December 2023 she preformed as the special guest of James McIntyre – the Irish Ambassador to Morocco – to showcase the diverse range of Irish Storytelling.

Maria can deliver Wisdom Stories, Gathered Stories, Irish Myths & Legends, World Myths and Legends, Historical Tales, Original Stories and more.

Maria Gillen was the Storyteller in Residence for the Kerry Writers Museum from 2019 to 2022. She was the Artistic Director for the Listowel International Storytelling Festival 2019-2022. She is a well known popular storyteller on the storytelling circuit in Ireland and on the Cyberspace Platform. She is a well known Bean An Tí (Irish Session Host) on the Irish Storytelling Circuit.

Maria loves listening to stories and will tell a story at the drop of a hat. She loves co-creating stories with anyone ‘from the cradle to the grave’. She believes deeply in the power of stories to build communities, heal prejudice and to build resilience. She is a member of IACAT (Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists).

Family Carers Ireland is the national charity supporting the 500,000 family carers across the country who care for loved ones such as children or adults with additional needs, physical or intellectual disabilities, frail older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic illnesses, mental health challenges or addiction.

Our vision is an Ireland in which family carers are properly recognised, supported and empowered. Our mission is to highlight the contribution of family carers to Irish society and to improve the lives of family carers throughout the country. We believe that no one should have to care alone
