Summit Sisters
Get ready to connect, empower, and uplift each other at Summit Sisters - a coming together to hike to the beautiful Keeper Hill.
Located at the eastern end of the Silvermine mountains and bounded by the Doonane River, this is a popular starting point for walkers who wish to climb Keeper Hill or indeed for those who want to the forest. Keeper or Sliabh Coimeálta is the highest mountain in the Shannon area at 694m and is the 117th highest in Ireland. The wood has a good species mix that includes; beech, larch, spruce, ash and pines. There is also a sweathouse located close to the forest road that is worth some investigation.
Difficulty Level: Suitable for those with an average fitness level
Terrain: A mix of forestry, open moorland, and tracks
Distance: 8-9 km (depending on group and weather this may be extended)
Duration: 3 hours minimum.
This programme is for women over the age of 18 only.
Max group size is 12
As part of the day the guide will have a look at some basic navigation with you such as identifying where you are on the map, identifying symbols on the map and ground. They will also go through appropriate equipment, where are good locations to walk and the benefits of joining a local hillwalking club as well as some basic safety tips.
We will meet at 10am and we should be back at the cars approx 2pm.

People will need to bring the following:
- Suitable footwear. Ideally walking boots with good grips and ankle support.
- Rain jacket and pants if possible
- A bag for a drink and some snacks
- An extra jumper to keep them warm plus hat and gloves.
- Please do not wear cotton or jeans. Synthetic clothing such as leggings, football jerseys etc is the best option with a fleece. Jeans and hoodies hold moisture and will actually make you colder.
