The Liquor Rooms and The Fumbally Exchange

We are very excited to launch our brand new multidisciplinary talk series, 'Synesthesia', in collaboration with The Fumbally Exchange.  Our senses tell us about the world around us, and our talk series aims to investigate our senses through discussions about design, science and performance. Our first talk will be about our sense of touch, and all things tangible.
Our speakers will be a combination of designers from the Fumbally Exchange and entreprenerurs from the creative industries in Dublin.
 
Gareth Jones Originally an architect from London, Gareth has been working as a graphic designer in Dublin since 2000. He provides design, illustration, art direction, identity and consultancy for a range of clients, predominantly in the creative arts sector. Clients include: Chamber Choir Ireland, Crash Ensemble, Culture Ireland, Dunedin Consort, Druid Theatre Company, Fishamble Theatre Company, Guinness, Heresy Records, The Gate Theatre, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Landmark Productions, Linn Records, ODOS Architects, Ouroboros Theatre Company, Poetry Ireland, Temple Bar Cultural Trust, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, Wide Open Opera and Words Ireland. Cathy Mac Kenna of <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/cathyscakesnbakes/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cathy's Cakes n' Bakes</A> After many years in the restaurant trade, success in the Great Irish Bakeoff in 2015 allowed Cathy to switch from serving food, to creating it. Now a full time baker and decorator, with a focus on bespoke wedding and celebration cakes, Cathy enjoys combining creativity with innovative techniques to create one-off works of edible art that taste as good as they look. Fiona Byrne Fiona Byrne is an experience arts manager and educator. She has worked in a range of environments from heritage projects, schools, museums, and contemporary galleries. Her experience has led her to work with many different people from toddles to older adults. Currently she is working freelance while studying for a PhD at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. She will talk about her experiences of using objects as mediators, how contact with objects can create dialogue, enable embodied learning through touch and how creating our own objects can help us make intangible thoughts touchable. Sam Whelan-Curtin Specialising in working with Social Sector organisations, Sam provides a range of Communications and Media services to his clients. With a keen focus on telling stories of real impact and results, Sam looks for the best in design principles to help his clients communicate their message ethically, effectively and in a way that is authentic to the people and causes they represent.
