Join us to celebrate 5 years of the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute. Over the past 5 years TBSI has provided an environment where innovative and interdisciplinary approaches have led to scientific discoveries of biomedical importance, ultimately giving rise to better patient care.

The 5 year anniversary event will also look forward to future research initiatives including insight into INNATE, the proposed Inflammation and Immunology Research Centre.

About TBSI

The Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI) is an innovative and interdisciplinary initiative whose work leads to scientific discoveries of biomedical importance, ultimately giving rise to improvements in human health and patient care. The mechanistic basis for a range of diseases is under investigation, including infectious and inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, asthma/allergy and type 2 diabetes, neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis, and different forms of cancer. Bioengineering research is also carried out and includes corneal tissue regeneration, bone joint repair, replacement heart valves and neural engineering.

TBSI is the largest Trinity research institute, with over seventy principal investigators, supported by over 500 research and support staff, drawn from five Schools and two faculties – Biochemistry and Immunology, Chemistry, Engineering, Medicine, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Research programmes are carried out in a state-of-the-art facility designed to maximise interaction and facilitate co-operation. The institute has established a wide range of core technologies of the highest standard, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR), biological transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and transgenics. A category 3 facility is available for research into hazardous biological agents such as HIV and Hepatitis C.

TBSI aims to foster a spirit of interaction, exploration and collaboration on the frontiers of biomedical research, such that truly ground-breaking discoveries can be made. TBSI researchers collaborate extensively with researchers in other institutions throughout the world. The institute also supports spin out companies and is working with several pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

TBSI enables researchers to continue to perform at the highest level, helping to sustain Trinity’s place as a leading international scientific university.
