Description
To mark the anniversary (November 30th) of the death of Oscar Wilde, one of the world's most famous LGBT+ people, Dublin Pride are launching 'The Wilde Idea'. This festival of events and activities will take place as part of our new Winter Pride Festival, running from November 25th to December 1st.
The inaugural 'The Wilde Talk' symposium will take focus of Wilde’s experiences of exile and imprisonment and compare them to the experiences of LGBT+ asylum seekers living in Direct Provision in Ireland today. The symposium will be chaired by Alan Edge. Alan is an independent councillor for South County, from Dublin, he spent years in London as a legal-aid barrister, fighting on behalf of vulnerable people and giving them a voice.
Following the symposium you are invited to take The Wilde Walk as we go to the Oscar Wilde statue in Merrion Square where we will have a short oration and lay green carnations.
