Our Three Day Tutored En Plein Air event, which is open to beginners and experienced artists alike, takes place during Heritage Week 2024, from August 22nd - 24th.

We are thrilled to provide you with a unique outdoor painting experience, in the beauty and tranquility of Heywood Gardens, Heywood Demesne, and nearby Ballinakill Village.

Led by renowned tutors Jock Nichol and Neal Greig, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience for art enthusiasts of all levels.

Three Day Tutored En Plein Air

🎨 Day 1 - August 22nd: We kick off our artistic journey amidst the breathtaking surroundings of Heywood Gardens. Designed by the legendary Edwin Lutyens and brought to life by Gertrude Jekyll in 1906, this garden is a haven for inspiration.

🌲 Days 2 & 3 - August 23rd & 24th: Venture into the magical woodlands and along the serene Masslough Lake, where every corner offers a new perspective for your canvas. Explore the woodland trails, lakeside paths, and diverse wildlife, capturing the essence of nature in your artwork.
Ballinakill Village: Dive into the rich history and picturesque charm of Ballinakill, with its historic buildings and quaint streets providing endless subjects for your paintings.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring?

Bring all materials that you intend to use, including paints, brushes, paper/canvases, easel and chair if required. Also be prepared for all weather conditions, so be sure to pack sunscreen and wet weather gear.

What time do I arrive?

Day 1: Heywood Gardens, Upper Car Park, 9.30 a.m. Day 2: Heywood Gardens, Lower Car Park, 9.30 a.m. Day 3: Ballinakill Village, Old School Community Hall, 9.30a.m.

What time do I finish painting at?

Each day's painting is scheduled to finish by 5pm, but you are more than welcome to remain longer, should you require.

Is the event suitable for beginners?

Yes, our event is suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike. Our tutors are always at hand to offer the very best advice and guidance.
