About this event

‘Tight Spaces’ is an engaging and interactive workshop focused on a youth-led resource created by ARD Youth Project and the Irish Refugee Council.
This educational resource was created by young people for young people . This workshop is led by agroup of young people who were involved in its development and through the workshop they share their own personal experiences of seeking safety and belonging. As such, ‘Tight Spaces’ gives insight into the treacherous journeys people have had to take in search of safety and their experiences within Ireland’s international protection system. It aims to raise awareness of Ireland’s Direct Provision system and intends to bridge the gap in knowledge for young people in Ireland on this topic.

The ‘Tight Spaces’ workshop was originally developed for delivery in schools and youth

programmes with the aim of encouraging participants to connect with the topic of Direct

Provision, explore it critically, and work towards taking action to build solidarity and create

change. For this project the original workshop has been reimagined to include the learning

experienced by student teachers on the Professional Masters of Education (PME) programme,

School of Education, Univeristy of Galway, who previously participated in the workshop. As

such, while this version of the workshop will still be facilitated by those young people who

created it, it will additonally involve some input from a number of student teachers.
