Do you want your child to have the best start possible for secondary school?

This six-week online programme for children living with the challenges of Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, transitioning from 6th Class to 1st Year. The course aims to support your child in preparing for secondary school. Across five one-hour sessions your child will have a space to think about what it means to live with autism/ dyslexia/ dyspraxia ; time management, organisation, study and rules; making friends; and looking after our physical and mental health. The sessions are discussion-based and interactive – children will be encouraged to share their opinions and find their voice. The sixth session is run for parents only, so that you can know what was covered in the sessions and continue the conversation about transitions at home. This programme is based on the Belonging Plus+ evidence-based schools programme.

100% of parents rated that their children had found the programme helpful and that they had enjoyed it.

The children said:

  • “it made me feel happy”
  • “it was helpful and interesting”
  • “It was nice to know I wasn’t the only one experiencing some situations”

This Transitions Programme is facilitated by psychologist Emma McEnaney.

Emma works as a Trainee Clinical Psychologist in the NHS. This is her fourth year running this Transitions programme. Emma has run support and social groups for neurodiverse children and adolescents and has worked across adult mental health services in the NHS. Emma is passionate about giving neurodiverse children the best start possible to their education and creating positive spaces for children to have healthy conversations about what matters to them.
