Understanding and Managing Adult ADHD Programme (UMAAP) is a 6 week online workshop for ADHD Adults.
About this event
Please, make sure you are comfortable to attend full six sessions!
Understanding and Managing Adult ADHD Programme (UMAAP) is a 6 week online workshop that combines psychoeducation, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help adults with ADHD develop more compassion towards their neurodivergent brains, connect more fully in the present moment, respond more effectively to the unwanted thoughts and emotions that ADHDers experience, and engage more fully with their lives.
The programme is facilitated by Aisling Leonard-Curtin, senior counselling psychologist, peer-reviewed ACT trainer, co-author of the number 1 bestseller The Power of Small and ADHDer.
UMAAP was developed by the UCD School of Psychology in conjunction with ADHD Ireland and the National Clinical Programme. ADHD Ireland will be hosting the next group sessions at 10 - 11:30am on the following Wednesdays:
- 13th July 2022
- 20th July 2022
- 27th July 2022
- 3rd August 2022
- 10th August 2022
- 17th August 2022
The groups will be virtual and there are 30 places for the July/August UMAAP group.
The 30 places for this group will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis to the first 30 people who indicate interest and are available to attend all six sessions. If you do not get a place in this programme or are unable to attend these dates, please let me know if you would still like to be informed about the next cycles of the programme which will be running throughout 2022.
We piloted the UMAAP programme last November, and one of the key pieces of feedback from participants was that it would be more effective if it was delivered by an ADHDer who had lived experience of ADHD. UMAAP will now be facilitated by a psychologist who is herself an ADHDer and will bring a combination of her skills as a psychologist and group facilitator as well as awareness of the ADHD brain from her lived experience.
We are also formally evaluating UMAAP to see how helpful it is. If you register for the programme, you will be invited to join the study. The study will involve completing some questionnaires before the programme, immediately after and 3-months later. There will also be an opportunity to attend a brief refresher 3-months after the final session! We would love to have your experience included in our findings, but you do not have to participate in the study to attend UMAAP
