Universal Design for Learning (UDL) | A Professional Development Workshop 

The Teaching Enhancement Unit (TEU) in the National Institute for Digital Learning (NIDL) has responsibility for teaching and learning support and development in the University. The Unit is concerned with academic staff development with respect to new approaches to teaching and learning, educational research, and the support of a wide variety of educational technologies.

It is well documented that the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) have enormous potential to positively impact on the learning experience of all students, not exclusively those with disabilities or diverse learning needs. Specifically, UDL promotes the use of multiple communication methods to ensure that communication methods are accessible to all participants (Burgstahler, 2017). 
UDL creates inclusive pedagogy by encouraging a curriculum design tailored to address the needs of all students. By acknowledging that there is no average, UDL focuses on the needs of the individual and supports students through the variety of transitions that define their experience of higher education. UDL acknowledges the diversity in experience, culture and personality among learners and provides teachers in HEIs with the tools to reach out to all students in the classroom.
This professional development workshop will promote and implement an inclusive teaching and learning environment using principles of UDL for staff, faculty and learners in Higher Education Institutions. The workshop, facilitated by Dr. Abigail Moriarty of <A HREF="https://www.dmu.ac.uk/current-students/student-experience/udl.aspx" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">De Montfort University</A>, aims to;
