Promoting Inclusive Learning and Teaching Practices

2021-22 National Seminar Series: Using digital technologies to promote inclusive learning and teaching practices.National Seminar Series:This funding stream aims to support those who learn, teach, and support learning to consider the potential of digital technologies with the goal of enhancing learning, teaching, and overall digital capability. It will support seminars that: - Enhance understanding of how staff and students are currently engaging with digital technologies, as well as their needs and concerns. - Share innovation in learning, teaching and assessment with a focus on using technology to maximize learning impact. - Support conversations around policy development in an open digital world. This seminar is for those involved in initial teacher preparation and teacher professional development. At Hibernia College, the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework is fundamental to the design and delivery of our programmes. Through the delivery of a flexible pedagogical model, we address our students' variability, integrity, and diversity through a UDL lens. This practical seminar will include an input from the Association for Higher Education Access &amp; Disability (AHEAD with a focus on Hibernia College's current inclusive design of content and their use of digital technologies in teaching and learning to support Universal Design for Learning principles. It will consider the opportunities and challenges to enhance and promote teachers' use of digital technologies in their practice.Learning Outcomes:On completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:- Reflect on and share current use of digital technologies to enhance teaching, learning and assessment in initial teacher education in the context of a blended learning environment. - Consider and apply the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to promote and implement inclusive teaching and learning approaches. - Explore how a range of digital technologies can support inclusive practices and provide flexibility in the way information is presented, learners are engaged, and learners respond or demonstrate knowledge and skills in the blended learning environment. - Discuss the opportunities and challenges to enhance and promote teachers' use of digital technologies in their practice. - Share new learning and understanding of the use of digital technologies to support inclusion and learner success.
