Description

Victorian Dublin Revealed: a celebration of the city’s 19th-century architectural legacy, an evening lecture series - Presented by the Irish Georgian Society and Dublin City Council’s Heritage Office, and delivered by established academics, authors, architects and conservationist, the lectures will celebrate the rich architectural legacy of the Victorians. The series will delve into Dublin’s 19th century built heritage; examining the city’s domestic, ecclesiastical, commercial, philanthropic, cultural and infrastructural architecture and place the buildings in their socio-economic and political context.

a) Tuesday 1st October - The Victorian Church in Dublin by Dr Alistair Rowan, architectural historian.

b) Monday 7th October - The Dublin Victorian Railway Terminii by Michael Barry, author.

c) Tuesday 15th October -Decorative Dublin and its Victorian Details by Peter Pearson, author, artist and conservationist.

d) Tuesday 22nd October - Victorian Values: philanthropic housing in Dublin and the Dublin Artisans’ Dwelling Company by Colum O’Riordan, Director, Irish Architectural Archive.

e) Tuesday 29th October - Cities of the Dead: Dublin's Victorian Cemeteries by Gretta Doyle, Senior Architect, Office of Public Works.

f) Tuesday 5th November - Dublin’s 19th Century Market Buildings by Dr Samantha Martin-McAuliffe, Assistant Professor, School of Architecture, UCD.

g) Tuesday 12th November – Victorian Bank Architecture of Dublin by Dr Michael O’Neill, architectural historian.

h) Tuesday 19th November - Craftsmanship and building for display: TCD’s Museum Building by Professor Christine Casey, Trinity College Dublin.

i) Tuesday 26th November - Dublin’s Bourgeois Homes: Building the Victorian suburbs, 1850-1901 by Dr Susan Galavan, Department of Architecture, KU Leuven, Belgium.

j) Whole Course – all nine lectures

Venue: Lectures take place at 6.30pm every Tuesday (except for the second lecture which takes place on a Monday) during October and November 2019 at the Irish Georgian Society’s City Assembly House, 58 South William Street, Dublin 2.

Ticket Price: €15 per talk or €105 for all 9 talks if booked in advance as a course (two talks for free)
