About this event

Kilfenora is steeped in traditional Irish music and history, and is home to the most famous of all Irish music bands, The Kilfenora Ceili Band, founded in 1909 and still performing to this day. You will walk through the ancient village of Kilfenora exploring the history and traditional music of this iconic Irish village, where a monastic site was founded by Saint Fachtna in AD560. There is also evidence that Kilfenora was a holy place in pre-Christian times.

We will visit the Cathedral, the Celtic High Crosses, and the 12th century carvings. You will learn the detailed history of this, one of Ireland's smallest dioceses, where the Pope is still the bishop (that's a great story in itself)!

We will visit the Kilfenora Ceili Band exhibition, and listen to some recordings of the band itself.

Other things to note
