Event description

While the need for educators to develop and enhance their digital skills is well established at an international, national and local level the strategies by which this can be achieved are not always as well articulated or formulated. Both research and practice experience indicates that adopting a range of responses are most likely to be successful in terms of the development of educational technology skills and hence the enhancement of teaching and learning.

This online seminar aims to introduce participants to a tool that can aid with the identification of digital literacy capabilities and hence aid with their professioanl development. The tool in question is the Visitor and Resident (VandR) map, a tool that was developed by David White and Alison Le Cornu (2017); which they define as: "a continium of modes of engagement which has been well established as a valuale way to understand how individuals engage online".

The seminar has three elements:

1. Online Presentation by David White outlining the development and employment of the VandR map

2. Facilitated interactive Q&A

3. Introduction to the All Aboard Visitor-Resident Course and Digital Badge

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will be introduced to the concept of the Vistor and Resident (VanR) map

  • Appreciate the ways that the VandR map can be employed as a professional development tool regarding digital literacy

  • Develop familiarity with existing VandR resources that will enable them to engage in their own professional development and/or assist other
