Overview

Join two final-year SWSP PhD students as they share the lessons, surprises, and strategies they wish they had known in their earlier years.

Starting your PhD can feel overwhelming, moving from first year into data collection can be daunting, and begining the write up can feel intimdating — but you’re not alone.
Join one final-year PhD student and another who has just passed their viva as they share the lessons, surprises, and strategies they wish they had known in the earlier stages of their.

This will be an informal session, however, topics we will cover include:

  • Managing expectations and workload.
  • Building a sustainable research routine.
  • What happens when your PhD changes focus?
  • What they didn’t need to worry about as much.
  • What they learned to forgive themselves for.
  • Finding support and community.
  • Supervision and annual reviews.
  • Common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

This is intended ot be a discussion. So, bring your own questions, concerns and queries. All SWSP PhD researchers welcome.
