The Wide Street Commission was established in 1757, and was Ireland’s first planning authority. Over its 94-year existence, it had a major impact on the development of Georgian Dublin. The records of Wide Street Commission are preserved by Dublin City Archives, and include over 900 manuscript maps of Dublin dating from 17-19th century which are subject to an ongoing conservation project. As part of funding received by Dublin City Council under the Heritage Council Community Heritage Grant Scheme to conserve 31 maps in 2017, two events will be held during Heritage Week 2017 to allow public to explore the work of the Wide Street Commissioners hands-on.
