WiDS Dublin @ IBM is an independent event that is organised by Aine Lenihan (DataDamsel) as part of the annual WiDS Worldwide conference organised by Stanford University and an estimated 150+ locations worldwide, which features outstanding women doing outstanding work in the field of data science. All genders are invited to attend all WiDS Worldwide conference events.

Bios:

Aine Lenihan

Host & moderator, Aine Lenihan, is the Irish Ambassador for Women in Data Science at Stanford. Aine is a Senior Analytics Architect with IBM, currently developing analytics products for the American healthcare market. Prior to IBM, Aine was a data & analytics leader in AIB, managing the development of advanced analytics models to measure credit risk, and has also headed up analytics model deployment and model management in the then Capital Markets division. With postgraduate qualifications in statistics and in computer science from Trinity College and DCU, she is currently a doctoral candidate in one of the first professional doctorates of its kind, a Doctorate in Data Science. An advocate of lifelong education, Aine lectured for 5 years on Data & DBMSs on an evening degree course in Trinity College Dublin. She is also the founder of DataDamsel, which aims to democratise data & AI. Watch this space… Fun fact is that Aine is a qualified ski instructor, through the Austrian system, and has ski instructed over 3 seasons in Austria, which led to interviews from Irish national press media and radio. She is also busy mum of 2.

Harriet Rees

Harriet is Head of Data Science at Starling Bank. Prior to joining Starling, Harriet’s career was focused in the Actuarial and Mathematical fields where she worked as Head of Price Optimisation at AXA to bring applications of AI to traditional regulated Insurance markets. Harriet joined Starling in April 2018 and has since led the data science and analytics agenda at the Bank. Harriet is working on a range of AI applications at Starling which seek to improve efficiency at Starling and improve customer experiences for Starling customers. Harriet is passionate about jobs in Data and Tech being available outside of London and as such is establishing a team of Data Scientists that will be based in the new Starling offices in Cardiff. Harriet presents regularly on AI practice, Ethical AI and use of responsible AI including keynotes at TechnovaAI, GovMoney and as a panelist at FinTechConnect.

Medb Corcoran

Medb Corcoran, as managing director of Accenture labs, leads the research team in the development of breakthrough concepts. Medb is responsible for driving the Labs’ research and development work in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This involves exploring new ways of solving business problems through leading-edge AI techniques, including machine learning and knowledge graphs. Medb has twelve years’ experience at Accenture, working in a range of roles across the business. Most recently, Medb held the position of Applied Intelligence Director at The Dock. In this role, she oversaw multi-disciplinary teams prototyping and piloting new technologies in Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence with clients across industries and sectors. Medb is passionate about building STEM education and works with third level institutions in Ireland to design courses for the jobs of the future. She assisted in the development of the DCU’s new BSc in Data Science, which launched in DCU in September 2016 and was part of an industry working group designing the first MSc in Artificial Intelligence in Ireland, which launched in 2018. Medb has a background in Maths with a BSc in Maths from Oxford University and an MSc in Applied Maths from Dublin City University.

Dr Rebecca Pope (she/her)

Dr Rebecca Pope (she/her) is a Clinical Neuroscientist and previous Director of Data Science & AI for KPMG UK. Before joining KPMG in 2017, Rebecca worked as a data scientist at IBM and researcher at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, UCLH and the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging, UCL. In July, Rebecca will be joining the global biotechnology healthcare company, Roche as their ‘UK Digital & Data Science Innovation Lead’; working with an ecosystem of partners towards personalised healthcare within Oncology and Rare Diseases.

Rebecca is a regular keynote speaker at international conferences, has delivered a TEDx talk titled ‘How can AI help our NHS and should we be concerned?’; was voted as ‘The Most Influential Women in UK Tech’ (2019 & 2020); is an honorary Data Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital’s DRIVE Unit and PhD supervisor and Senior Research Fellow at UCL (ICH); specialising in the application of machine learning to real-world problems in healthcare. Rebecca has published a number of academic research papers, written several scientific commentaries in The Times and The Guardian, and is the recipient of National awards for her research. Rebecca is a passionate advocate of diversity and inclusion. She is an active member a number of networks (Stonewall, OneHealthTech, SheCanCode) that encourage an inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered.

Jennifer Cruise

Jennifer Cruise's stellar career in Data Science has recently seen her move to EY as a Director of Analytics. Prior to EY, Jennifer was Head of Data Science at the Aon Center for Innovation and Analytics in Dublin. There she lead a large international data team, operating at the cutting edge of analytics.

Cruise has an outstanding academic background in mathematics, including a master’s degree. Not just a fantastic Data Science leader, she is also a musician and a mum. She is a wonderful speaker and captivates her audience.

Hélène Guillaume

Tech entrepreneur Hélène Guillaume, is founder and CEO of WILD.AI. She studied mathematics and financial risk, and was a quant in a hedge fund, and a management consultant to Fortune500 companies in AI. She is a former rugby player; an ultra-marathon runner, triathlete, and ice-swimmer. She is also the co-founder of PeakAI.org, a community of AI researchers and Founders. Hélène is an EntrepreneurFirst8 Cohort Member(considered the best Deep Technology incubator for technical talent) . Earlier this year she was a guest speaker at Stanford Class of Engineering, and last month appeared on Dragons Den (UK equivalent of Shark Tank)
