William Butt at Killruddery

William Butt at Killruddery

KillrudderyBray, Wicklow
Sunday, Jun 7 from 12 pm to 1 pm
Overview

The second of three concerts with festival favourite William Butt performing Bach's complete cello suites.

JS Bach: Cello Suite No 2 in D Minor, BWV 1008

JS Bach: Cello Suite No 5 in C Minor, BWV 1011

Killruddery, overlooked by the magnificent Sugar Loaf Mountains, provides the perfect backdrop for the second of three concerts in which the distinguished cellist William Butt shines the spotlight on JS Bach’s Six Suites for Solo Cello.

It has been said of Bach that, “he showed a great love for exploring specific types of pieces in a very concentrated way” and that, “he often assembled collections of works that demonstrate… the complete technical potential of the instrument for which the music was written”. The six Cello Suites certainly display this propensity extremely well with audiences having the opportunity to hear it for themselves in this lunchtime concert featuring the wonderful Second and Fifth Suites by the master.
