Unboxed are delighted to welcome Ye Vagabonds to Oranmore as part of their May/June tour. Supported on the night is by Poor Creature

About this event

With grateful thanks to Galway County Council Arts Office and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Local Live Performance Scheme, Unboxed are delighted to welcome Ye Vagabonds to Oranmore for the very first time!

Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn grew up playing music together around their hometown of Carlow. After moving to Dublin in 2012, they quickly became a staple of the live music and session scene in Irelannd, playing their own original songs as well as folk songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America.

In 2014 they came to the attention of Arbutus Yarns’ music filmmaker Myles O’Reilly, whose videos gained international attention and the rest, as they say, is history.

The brothers launched their debut, self-titled album to great acclaim in October 2017. 'Ye Vagabonds' comprises of harmony rich folk music, influenced by Irish traditional music, Appalachian singing, and the 1960's folk revival. Their second album ‘The Hare’s Lament’ was released on March 2019 to huge critical acclaim.

'Nine Waves', scheduled to be released via Rough Trade’s River Lea label in May is their third album and latest musical offering. 'Nine Waves' was recorded in the Dublin Mountains at Hellfire Studios and produced by John 'Spud' Murphy (whose previous work includes records by black midi, Lankum and caroline)

In 2019 Ye Vagabonds won the BBC Radio Two Folk Award for Best Traditional Track, and they swept the boards at the RTÉ Radio One Folk Awards where they won Best Traditional Track, Best Group, and Best Album for the brothers for the first time.

Poor Creature

Support on the night will be by Poor Creature which is made up of Cormac MacDiarmada (Lankum) and Ruth Clinton (Landless)

Poor Creature perform new interpretations of old songs, accompanied by viola, guitar, synth and theremin. Drawing inspiration from Irish and American traditional music–via Angelo Badalamenti–their music has dark and dreamy undertones and features themes of love, loss and the supernatural.

Poor Creature's recent performances include RTE’s Mise Freshin, Secret Song, Levis’ Ballydehob; Dublin Book Festival; Culture Night at The Model, Sligo; ‘Swimming A Long Way Together’, Cork; and ‘Last Stop: Grianstad’ radio show for Dublin Digital Radio.

This event is supported by Galway County Council Arts Office and funded through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Local Live Performance Scheme.
