Event description

Interested in leading a young critics programme?

Learn new approaches for developing young people’s critical and creative skills through theatre criticism.

To coincide with the launch of the online Young Critics Resource Suite, Youth Theatre Ireland is delighted to announce a one day training seminar for youth arts practitioners to take place on Thursday 5th April.

Young Critics is one of Youth Theatre Ireland's most popular and innovative programmes. It is a theatre appreciation and access programme that introduces young people to critical thinking, critical response and theatre making as a whole. The aim of Young Critics: Training for Practitioners, is to share this model of excellence with youth theatre leaders, facilitators, youth arts workers and anyone with an interest in working with young people through theatre and drama.

The training day will include:

· an introduction to Youth Theatre Ireland’s young critics practice;

· a walk through and guide to using the online Young Critics Resource Suite;

· a participatory workshop using some of the young critics exercises and techniques;

· space to explore how you may plan for your own young critics activities;

· an introduction to making critical responses using digital technology.

Places are free but limited. Travel expenses, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

This event coincides with the launch of the Young Critics Resource Suite. The Young Critics Resource Suite is an online, accessible collection of multi-media resources, designed to support practitioners in the delivery of young critics activities with young people in any arts or educational context. With funding from the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, The Young Critics Resource Suite has been developed over 18 months in partnership with Youth Theatre Arts Scotland.

The training day will be facilitated by Youth Theatre Ireland's Alan King. Alan has been project leader and facilitator on the the Young Critics programme since 2010 and has significantly developed and expanded the programme in that time.
