How We Gather - Assembly Public Programme
The Ireland at Venice exhibit Assembly was Ireland’s national representation in 2025 at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, the Venice Biennale. Commissioned by Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council, the exhibit was curated by Cotter & Naessens Architects, and their team comprised architects Louise Cotter and David Naessens, multidisciplinary artist Michelle Delea, woodworker Alan Meredith, curator Luke Naessens and sound artist David Stalling.
Assembly will be presented in the public concourse of Áras Mhic Dhiarmada / Busáras, Dublin from 22nd October to 22nd November, 2026.
How We Gather is a multidisciplinary public programme of events which will unfold alongside Assembly during its time in Áras Mhic Dhiarmada / Busáras. The programme includes conversations, workshops, architectural tours, readings, and public encounters and will take place over four weeks in October and November by bringing together artists, architects, poets, young people, and community organisations to explore how, where, and why we come together. Moving between architecture and democracy, housing and belonging, rural life, public space, language and landscape, How We Gather asks what enables people to participate and whose voices get to shape the spaces we inhabit.
The programme is curated by multidisciplinary artist Luke Casserly whose work explores how collective acts of gathering can transform our relationship with place.
The presentation of Assembly at Busáras and the How We Gather programme are presented in a joint partnership between Culture Ireland, the Arts Council and the Office of Public Works, in association with the Department of Social Protection and Bus Éireann, as part of the Culture Programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
