IComp

The Irish Centre for Composites Research (IComp) provides world class R&D support and innovation in the areas of composites, structural bonding and adhesives and surface engineering to industry throughout Ireland across a range of industrial sectors. Hosted at the University of Limerick (UL), IComp is a partnership between UL, University College Dublin (UCD), Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) and Irish industry (25 industrial members to date).

IComp carries out extensive R&D in support of Irish industry in the development, processing, assembly, testing and characterisation of composite materials and structures. The R&D programme is supported by a state-of-the-art suite of equipment for processing and testing both thermosetting and thermoplastic composites as well as adhesives, together with a surface engineering capability at UCD and the facilities in the Materials and Surface Science Institute at UL for the fundamental characterisation of polymers, composites and surfaces.

Multi-disciplinary expertise is available from experienced faculty and research staff covering the full spectrum of Science and Technology relevant to composites including polymer chemistry, a range of computational modelling capabilities, structural design, aerospace engineering, adhesion science, thermo-mechanical testing, environmental conditioning and non-destructive testing.
