Background to Liam Mellows GAA Club

Liam Mellows is Galway City’s leading senior hurling and camogie club with over 20 teams and superb facilities including small-sided astro-pitches and hurling walls.

Liam Mellows GAA Club was formed in 1933 & is situated along the shores of Galway Bay, at Ballyloughane, Renmore, in Galway City.  As the only hurling and camogie club based in Galway city, it has many great names who have worn the Mellows jersey throughout the years – the late Seán Duggan, Niall McInerney, Jimmy Duggan, & in more recent years, All-Star hurler David Collins, Aonghus Callanan, John Lee & Tadhg Haran. 

With over 700 members ranging from the 6-year old right up to the 90-year old, Liam Mellows GAA Club has played a pivotal role in the development of Gaelic Games and sport in general in Galway City.  Off the pitch, Liam Mellows play a very active role in the community, promoting the game of hurling & camogie in many city primary schools each week, participating annually in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, holding an annual family day, and many social events for members and friends throughout the year.  

Liam Mellows are the current Galway Senior Hurling Champions.
