The Mater Foundation

Established in 1985 as the official fundraising body of The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, we are now the largest adult hospital foundation in Ireland.

Funds raised are used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, enhance facilities, develop special programmes and invest in medical research.

The Mater Foundation has a number of appeals which help various aspects of the Mater Hospital.

For example, we have implemented a Women's Cancer Appeal. 

Over the years we have raised millions for Breast Cancer at the Mater Hospital including funding the renovation and continual development of BreastHealth Mater.

Following this phenomenal success we have decided to now focus our appeal to support women with a wide range of cancers including but not limited to, breast cancer and ovarian cancer by providing direct support, buying essential equipment and funding lifesaving research to help the thousands of women treated with cancer every year in the Mater Hospital. By supporting a wider range of cancers we truly can support more women and their families.

Through funds raised by the Women’s Cancer Appeal, we will ensure Lymphodema sufferers (a painful swelling of the lymphatic system that most often occurs after breast cancer) have access to early diagnosis and treatment by qualified specialists and physiotherapists. We will also commit money every year to research in to the cancers that sadly, are so common amongst the women of Ireland.
